We are a place where children thrive in meaningful play and adults find genuine support from others who can relate – and we have big plans!
The Pop-Up version of MiniKC is our first step, a proof of concept before we open our iconic Northland brick-and-mortar facility with a cafe, classes, memberships, and premium private birthday parties.
We welcome moms, dads, grandparents, nannies, and all caregivers of children aged 0–5, who are seeking supportive connection and purposeful play.

Bring Your Grippy Socks
To protect our littlest guests and the cleanliness of our play area, outdoor shoes are not permitted. This simple step helps reduce the transfer of outside germs, dirt, and oils. We ask that all guests remove their outside shoes upon entry. (You’re welcome to use a cubby for storage!) Grippy socks are highly recommended for safety.
No Food or Drink in Play Area
While the Pop-Up location has a strict facility policy against food and drink on their custom dance floors, we understand that everyone needs snacks! We encourage you to use the lobby area for quick breaks and need your help to leave the space cleaner than we found it. Please throw away packaging, wipe up crumbs, and ensure clean hands before returning to the play area.
Responsibility for Supervising Children
MiniKC is not childcare, it is a caregiver-supervised facility. For the safety of all guests, adults must remain actively present and responsible for the constant supervision of all minor children under their care at all times during the visit. Children may not be left unattended at any time.
Sanitation Standards
To ensure our play area remains consistently clean and hygienic, we use designated "Yuck Buckets" located throughout the room. If a child has mouthed a toy, or if a toy needs cleaning, please place it directly into the nearest bucket. Our team will collect and sanitize these items regularly. MiniKC staff also actively picks up and sanitizes throughout the day, every day, including deep cleaning and disinfecting all play surfaces after closing.
We want to be fair to you and operationally smart to our business.
All purchases are non-refundable; however, cancellations will receive a full credit for the cost of your reservation toward any future MiniKC booking. If you need to cancel, we just ask that you notify us as soon as possible so we can offer your spot to another family in the community.
No credit will be given for no-shows.
We are your "third space" that provides a different value than free destinations such as our beautiful parks or libraries. While you are in the hustle of raising young children, your investment at MiniKC buys you peace of mind and essential consistency:
Age Groups: Our space is designed specifically for children aged 0-5, with a gated section for pre-mobile babies so they can play without worrying about “big kids” running them over. Activities, toys, and equipment at MiniKC are tailored to the developmental needs of our customers.
All-Weather: Enjoy a comfortable, safe, and engaging indoor atmosphere regardless of the weather. This provides essential consistency for your weekly routine.
Cleanliness: We adhere to continuous, rigorous sanitation protocols, giving you peace of mind that a park cannot.
Community: This is the most crucial part. MiniKC is specifically designed to foster conversation and genuine connection among adults, helping to combat caregiver isolation in a way that isn’t typically feasible in other spaces.
Mini Kansas City was born from a founder's story of resilience, driven by a sentimental love of family experiences. As she gets uncomfortably close to her 50th birthday, and after enduring countless personal and career setbacks, she’s ready to prove to herself that “it’s never too late”. She is building the business she has envisioned: an eclectically curated space where children are engaged in play and their grown-ups are finding a supportive community.
Michelle brings a rare and highly relevant blend of skills essential for this venture. Her foundation includes nearly three decades as a dance educator, providing deep insight into child development and enrichment. This is combined with five years of direct operational management at a child development center and an extensive career in business administration, ensuring both a high-quality customer experience and sound operations.
You'll always know when Michelle is in the building — you’ll probably hear her giant genuine laugh and know that the heart of MiniKC is present.
This dream is built on resilience; thank you for believing in this woman-owned startup. Michelle has personally earned every skill needed to launch MiniKC by starting over, time and time again. Your purchase of a single toy or piece of equipment is a tangible vote of confidence in this new chapter, acting as a community lift for this new venture. This is a direct way to help MiniKC prove the concept and grow from Pop-Up to Brick-and-Mortar.
Q: Can I bring my older child (6+)?
A: Our toys and equipment are designed for the wear and tear of children aged 5 and under. While older children (6+) are welcome to hang out, to ensure our youngest guests have a safe space to play, they are not permitted inside the play area. They are welcome to bring a quiet activity from home or grab something from our "Big Kid Cart".
Q: Can my child join their sibling's Playgroup even though they are in different developmental stages?
A: We understand that juggling schedules can be tough. Tag-alongs (non-registered children under your supervision) are welcome for the Playgroup hour (9:30am–10:30am) at no extra charge. To stay for Open Playtime after 10:30am, please register and pay for the tag-along online.
Q: What's the rule on food and drinks? Can I bring a snack for my child?
A: We know little tummies get hungry! Please enjoy all food and drink in the lobby area. This is a non-negotiable rule to protect the dance studio's custom flooring, so absolutely no food or drinks are permitted in the playroom. When you're done, please clean up all crumbs, ensure hands are clean, and help us leave the lobby cleaner than you found it!
Q: Why can't we keep our outdoor shoes on? It's kind of a pain to hassle with them.
A: All outdoor shoes must be removed to maintain the cleanliness of our floors for our littlest guests and crawlers. This simple step helps reduce the transfer of outside germs, dirt, and oils. Grippy socks are highly recommended for safety.
Q: What happens if the time slot I want to book is sold out?
A: If a time slot is sold out, please join the waitlist directly on our booking calendar. This is the fastest way to secure an opening. If your plans change, we ask that you cancel your reservation immediately; this simple act of community kindness allows another family to claim the spot.
Q: My biggest worry is germs. With so many kids playing, how often is the equipment actually cleaned?
A: Continuously! We monitor and sanitize surfaces throughout the day, and we deep clean and disinfect after closing. You can help by tossing mouthed toys into a "Yuck Bucket." We've got hand sanitizer conveniently placed for everyone too!
